BAKING MUST-HAVES

If you are a new baker, here are a few baking must-haves that you need to have to start your baking adventure. A list that you need if you are making cookies, cupcakes and cakes. This is the basic of all basics and here are a few of my favorite things!!

STAINLESS STEEL MEASURING CUPS AND MEASURING SPOONS

This is a basic tool for every baker! I like the stainless steel instead of the plastic because sometimes sometime the smell of the ingredient lingers. With stainless steel, the smell usually comes off easily and it’s easy to wash. Also, the number on the plastic can wear off, but this one has the numbers etched on the side and on the handle so ti will not wear off. I would also suggest getting 2 sets so that you keep on baking without pausing to wash them. Use this only to measure dry ingredient, unless measuring extracts, then you can use the measuring spoons.

GLASS MEASURING CUP

Glass measuring cups are meant to measure liquids. There are different sizes on measuring cups, one that can even go to 2 liters, but I feel the 2 cups is probably the one that you will use the most. Unlike the plastic, it’s easy to clean and you can put it in the microwave if you need to heat something up.

MIXING BOWLS

This mixing bowls are very versatile. For bread making, the glass makes it easy to see if how high your dough has risen. For chocolate melting, it’s microwavable or you can use it for double boiling your chocolate on the stove top. For meals, you can also use them as salad bowls or soups. It’s great when you have things that have lots of uses!!

RUBBER SPATULAS

There areas many different kinds of spatulas but here’s a story why I choose this rubber ones. I used to have one that has a wooden handle but one day I was mixing a dough with it. I was mixing it with all my heart and CRACK!!! The handle broke apart! So now I only use the rubber one to make sure that nothing breaks apart and these are actually so much easier to clean because it is in one piece so no dough can get into any crevices.

WHISK

Did you know that there are 7 different kind of whisks? Flat, balloon, French, plastic, stainless steel and many more. But this is the one that is the universal whisk that everyone should have in their utensil drawer. Another thing you should pay attention to when you buy a whisk is you need to make sure that the grip is comfortable in your hands. I had a whisk that had a really skinny handle and it really hurt my hands when I’m whisking for a long time such as making lemon curds.

BAKING SHEETS

I really like these baking sheets and I think I’ve had mine for more than 10 years!! They are sturdy and long lasting and I like how they have the lip so that you don’t burn your hands when you take it out of the oven. You can also you this when you put rubs on your meat, put a cutting board on top so you catch the juices when cutting chicken, or you can also use this to bring your baked goods to your friends and family! Just make sure to use a parchment paper when baking with it.

MUFFIN PAN

I like this muffin pan because it’s really long lasting. And again, I like that it has a lip at the edge so that It’s easy for me to take out of the oven. And this pan is not just limited to baking muffins or cupcakes. You can also use it to bake egg cups or egg muffins. Here are some tips to best use your muffin pans. Make sure to use muffin liner, do not use non-stick spray to grease the cups, and if your muffin liners becomes greasy after the bake, make sure to put a tablespoon of rice before putting in the muffin liner. This is also another investment that would be great if you have more than one.

KITCHEN AID MIXER

Now this is a big splurge but it is 100% totally worth it. I have 3 boys but I also call this my other baby! That’s how much I love it. Its great for multitasking when mixing your dry ingredients and adding your wet ingredients, it’s wonderful when making a dough, and it is amazing when making whipped cream! It really saves your arms, your hands and your time!!! So if you’re not ready yet for this work of wonder, that’s ok! You can still bake when you have all the other items on top. But make sure during the holidays, you keep a look out on it because they usually go on sale.
