Brownies and Bars

S’MORES BARS

You’ve heard of Christmas in July, now I’ve got July at Christmas!!  For the 4th day of 12 days of Brownies and Bars, I’m bringing a treat that will remind you of campfire on a summer nights!  S’mores bars!!

How cold is it where you live?  Is it in the 30s like Washington DC, where I visited for Thanksgiving?  Or is it a nice cool 70’s like the weather here in Texas?  Well, wherever you are, summer months are long gone.  But it doesn’t mean that you cannot make summer desserts!!!  Here is a S’mores bar recipe that will remind you of the great summer day.  It has the basic ingredients of a S’mores, but the bottom has a graham cracker crust.  It’s really easy to make graham cracker crust.  Just combine butter and crushed graham crackers.  If you are making a pie, sometimes you can also add sugar but for this recipe, since it has the chocolate and S’mores, you can skip the sugar.

Combine the butter and the graham cracker in a medium bowl.  Make sure to really combine them well so you won’t end up with any lumps.

In a greased pan, pour the mixture and press so that it will be compact and even layered.   Bake in the oven for about 8-10 minutes.

Turn off the oven.  Place the Hershey bars, so that it will cover the surface of the graham crackers.  Then place is back in the warm oven for just 1 minute so that the chocolate will melt.

It actually glistens y’all!!  How fun is that!!!

Pour the mini marshmallow on top of that lake of chocolate.

Make a nice even layer, and put it under the broiler.  Now here is a very important tip!!  Whenever roasting or grilling anything under the broiler, STAY BY THE OVEN!  I’ve had a few experiences where I try to multitask while I have something in the oven and in a split second, Burnt!!  After all the hard work, burning something is not something fun.  So stay by the oven!!  The kitchen sink can wait!

And ta da!!!!  July at Christmas!!!  Make sure to let the graham crackers crust set by putting in the fridge for 1 hour and cut them into bars.  I made this for my son’s teachers and it was a hit!!  A great dessert, only 4 ingredients and fast to make!!

Happy Baking!!
