BUTTER TARTS SQUARE

Great on a cold winter day, with a cup of coffee, while watching Christmas Movie!!!  And yes, I think Die Hard is a Christmas Movie!!  On Day 10 I am presenting the happiness maker, Butter tarts squares!!

Just take a look at those layers!!  How could you say no to this!!!  And the best part is you probably have all the ingredients in your refrigerator and pantry.  Win win!!!

When I lived in Canada, (Shout out to my Canadian Peeps), I was never introduced to Butter Tarts!!!  I was introduced to Maple Taffy (Pouring Maple syrup on Snow!!), but not butter tarts.  Oh how my life was incomplete!!  Butter tarts is one of those rich dessert that is totally worth the calories!!!  I don’t make it often, and when I do I like to share them with friends and family so I don’t keep the calories all to myself!  I mean, I don’t keep the happiness all to myself!!  😂😂😂😂

There are only 2 process to this bar.  The crust and the filling.  First the crust.  In a stand mixer bowl, mix together the butter and the powdered sugar.

Then add in the flour and mix it until all the flour is incorporated.  Bake it in the oven for 15-20 minutes, and boom!  Crust is done.

While the crust is baking, go ahead and make the filling. Mix together the melted butter and the brown sugar.  Then add in the eggs, one by one.

Add in the vanilla extract.

Add in the vinegar to cut the sweetness.

Ta da!!  Your filling is done!!  There are 2 camps for butter tarts.  One with raisin and one without raisin.  Now, I’m a without raisin camp, but if you are, this would be time to add in your raisin.

Once your crust is baked, go ahead and pour the crust on top of the crust.  I like to just swirl around the pan so that it will even out the surface.

I mean would you look at this beauty!!!  I’m still aww-ing and ooh-ing over it!!!  Bake it again for another 25-30 minutes until the it kind of jiggle but not too much jiggle.

Whooaaaa Momma!!!  My mouth is salivating!!  Have fun making this wonderful Butter tart squares!!

Happy Baking!!

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F degrees. Line the pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang around the edges.
  2. In a stand mixer bowl, beat the butter and powdered sugar until fluffy.
  3. Mix in the flour. Remember to scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl and do the last mix with a spatula.
  4. Press the mixture into the bottom of the pan.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the top looks set and is a pale, golden color. Remove from the oven and leave the oven turned on.
FILLING
  1. While the crust is in the oven, mix together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  2. Add in eggs, one at a time, then add the vinegar and vanilla.
  3. Pour over crust and bake another 25-30 minutes until filling is set or almost set — a slight jiggle is fine but you don't want a lot of movement.
  4. Cool to room temperature and refrigerate several hours before cutting into squares.
