PEACH KUCHEN

Here’s another dessert to celebrate US DESSERT MONTH!!  Peach Kuchen is known as a South Dakota state dessert, with the origin from Germany.  Make the cake then let’s learn about the dessert!!  It’s about to get Peachy in here!!!

Now Kuchen is originally comes from Germany. The translation of Kuchen is Cake.  Many families enjoys a slice Kuchen with a hot cup of coffee or tea.  Some recipes has custard on top of the fruit but this one is really simple and just has the base and the fruit topping on top.  The recipe is most likely to have been brought by the people of Germany who immigrated to South Dakota.  It’s so unique how when people move to another country, they bring their national food and share it in the new country.  It’s what makes this world so interesting!

Now if you happen to be in Delmont, South Dakota on September 11th, there’s actually a festival that’s held every year.  You can Kuchen by the pan or by the slice.  If you happen to be there, save a slice for me!!  ?

Kuchen itself can have many different varieties.  I read you can use mangos, or banana, or apples.  But for this recipe, I will be using peaches.  Now you can use either canned or fresh.  I’ve tried both and they are both delicious.  So now that we learn about the history of Peach Kuchen, let’s make this delicious Peach Kuchen!!

Cream the butter and sugar in a stand mixer bowl.  Then add the eggs one by one, and scraping the sides of the bowl and mix well after each eggs.

Then add the vanilla extract and mix again.

Then add the flour mixture and mix together.

The batter is very sticky so you will need to dip your hands in a bowl of flour and even out the batter to cover the springform pan.

Then arrange slices of peaches all around the pan then sprinkle with sugar.

Just 40 minutes in the oven and ta da!!!  So lecker!!!  It wouldn’t hurt if you top it with vanilla ice cream!!

Happy Baking!!
