SUGAR COOKIE WREATH

What can you make when you have a delicious sugar cookie recipe with an easy-to-make royal icing?  A Sugar Cookie Wreath!!!  A beautiful dessert ready to make your dessert table even more festive!!

I can’t believe it’s finally here!!!  I am writing this post on a Christmas Eve morning and I am so excited that Christmas is finally here!!!

With all the baking that I’ve done, I think The 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BAKING was one the most fun things I’ve ever done.  It was so exhilarating writing each post after all the planning and baking that goes into it.  I was able to share them with friends and family, and I think that is really the best part of baking.

For my Christmas post, I was debating on what to make.  I’ve pretty much made so many Christmas Themed dessert that I was befuddled.  What to make, what to make …. But I do have some criteria for the next dessert:

  • After all the baking I made, I want to do something easy but still really delicious.
  • After all the eating everyone has done, I thought let’s do something light, like cookies.
  • I still want to make something pretty for the dessert table.

So I went to Pinterest and I found a winner.  A cookie wreath!!

This recipe is really simple. After you make the dough, you want to divide it into 3 pieces and make it into a ball.  You don’t want to make the ball to big because you’re going to spread it and it will be to wide when it’s spread out.

Here comes the best part of this recipe.  No flour!!  That means no mess!!!  You put the dough on a parchment paper, put another sheet on top of the dough, and then just roll away!!!  The dough won’t stick to the rolling pin and again, no mess!!

Be careful not to roll it out too thin.  1/4 inch is about the thickness that you want for this cookie.

You will get about 3 balls.  After you roll out the dough, start the process again with a new parchment paper.  Stack all the rolled-out dough on a baking sheet and refrigerate for about 2 hour.  When you are doing the cut out, leave the rest of the dough in the fridge.

This was a fun activity to do with my sons and they had fun doing it too.  It also helped me be done faster!!

I like to cut them out and lay it out.  Bake them for about 10-12 minutes until the sides are brown.

After the cookies are cooled, you can go ahead and ice the cookies.  You really can go to town with icing this cookie and the shape of this cookies.

Assembly is really easy.  I made a circle out of the greeting.  It’s also going to become the guide of the wreath.  Put the cookies all around it and you’ll have a beautiful Sugar Cookie Wreath!!

Tips for making this SUGAR COOKIE WREATH:

  • You can make this in stages over a few day.  Make the cookies in a day, ice the cookies the next and let it dry overnight, and assemble the next day.
  • Refrigeration is necessary.  It is so much more easier to cut the cookies when it’s firm from the refrigeration.
  • You can reshape the dough after you’ve done the cutting.  Just roll it into a ball and refrigerate again.
  • You can add embellishment with sprinkles or sparkling sugar.

Happy Baking!!!
