PEAR GATEAU

It’s the 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS CAKES!!!  We start with Pear Gateau for Partridge in a pear tree!!!!  Put on the kettle because this is perfect pair for tea!!

If you are new to my blog, every Christmas I have 12 days of Christmas theme for the blog.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year so I always go all out!!  The first year was 12 days of Christmas Bakes.  That was a whole lot of fun!!!  I liked trying all the different kinds of recipe because it really expands my horizon.  The second one was 12 days of Christmas Cookies.  Now that was the time when I bought lots and lots of butter!!  Now this year’s theme is 12 years of Christmas Cakes.  (PS.  This is also the year where I by lots and lots of butter!!  I guess that’s what happens when you are a baker!!)  So you know about the 12 days of Christmas song, right?  Just in case some of you are not familiar or don’t remember all the days, here’s a little refresher!!

12 Days of Christmas

A partridge in a pear tree,

Two turtle doves,

Three french hens,

Four calling birds,

Five gold rings,

Six geese a-laying

Seven swans a-swimming,

Eight maids a-milking,

Nine ladies dancing,

Ten lords a-leaping,

Eleven pipers piping,

Twelve drummers drumming.

So for the next 12 days, all the cakes are going to be a somewhat translation of the 12 days of Christmas theme.  It might be the ingredient, the topper, or the decorations of the cake.  I’m so excited to share all of them with you!!

I have to say that this cake stand is one of my favorite cake stands (You’ll see more “favorites” of mine in the next few days!! ?) and I love using it right after Christmas last year.  I got it from Walmart and because it was after Christmas, it was only $10!!!  I saw it on a post on a baking page that I follow so I hunted it down and I’m so happy I got it!!!  It has all the 12 days of Christmas image and what better way to use than to use it on the 1st day of Christmas which is Partridge in a Pear tree!!  Here’s how to make it!

After beating the butter and sugar together until very fluffy and white add the eggs one by one and beat again.

Add the vanilla and the lemon zest.

Then add the dry mixture.  Remember to scrape the sides and to not over beat the batter.

Spoon the batter into the greased springform pan.  Use the bottom of a measuring cup to even out the top.

Arrange the sliced pears on top and bake away!!!

It takes an hour in a 350 degrees F oven for you to be able enjoy this cake.

Mmm … mmmm …. doesn’t it look scrumptious?   For the picture I also made some caramel dipped hazelnuts.    So pretty!!

Here’s to the 1st recipe of 12 Days of Christmas Cakes!!!

Happy Baking!!
