TURBINADO CANE SUGAR COOKIES

It sounds fancy right?  🙂 While many of us do not know or use this sugar, but if you’ve ever been Starbucks before, you probably have seen this sugar in a little brown packets over at the place where you add sugar, milk, cinnamon, etc.  What do you call that counter?  It’s not the condiment counter right?  I need to go to Starbucks and ask them what they’re called. 🙂

So Turbinado sugar.   A few months ago, I joined a “Cook the Cookbook” club (try saying that 5 times fast!) at my library and it was amazing!  They’re all speaking my language.  No, not the Indonesian language or the English language, they were speaking my Baking language.  So everyone brings a dish that is according to the theme that month.  So far I went to French Cooking, Cookies and Bars, Chinese Cooking.  At the cookies and bars, a lady mentioned about Turbinado sugar.  I’ve never heard of it before but she made a cookie that had Turbinado sugar and yummmmm!!!!

Whenever I work with a new ingredients, I like to try it with a cookie recipe first.  Usually it doesn’t take a lot of ingredients, it’s easy, and you can taste it by making it the star of the show. There are so many things that I want to show you about this sugar and I will do it later when I’ll do a Baking 101 post on all about sugar.   Keep a look out for it!

After I have the batter made (really fast and easy),  I make an assembly line like so…

This makes the process faster and it’s all about efficiency, right?  The faster you are in rolling them, the faster you get to eat them!

When I was done baking it, I shared with my friends and put them in cute little packages.  I love sharing this cookies with friends because of 2 things :

  • Sharing what I made is my love language.
  • This cookies is very addictive.  I could keep eating it every time I go to my kitchen!

Tips for making this cookies :

  • Near the end of baking time, you need to check the doneness of the cookies.  Every oven is different so you might want to check about 5 minutes before the end of cooking time.
  • Put the cookies in a container so it doesn’t become hard.  It will last for 5 days.

Happy Baking!!
